Cinnamon Ground-Dove -
Geelhartparadijsduif
-
Gallicolumba rufigula

Image ID:
1386
Date:
19/06/2011
Location:
Mokwam,
Arfaks,
West Papua,
Indonesia
Description:

Like most of the Ground-Dove species in Papua, the Cinnamon Ground-Dove is a difficult to observe species. It is a shy bird, which forages on the ground and in the dense undergrowth. As I spent several days in a hide at the dance ground of a Magnificent Bird of Paradise, I was lucky to be able to take pictures at close range from this inconspicuous species. This bird seemed apperently to feed on spoiled fruitrests and seeds from the Maginificent Bird of Paradise. It is a Papua endemic, which is nowhere common.
