Common Ringed Plover -
Bontbekplevier
-
Charadrius hiaticula

Image ID:
4244
Date:
25/09/2011
Location:
Het Zwin,
Belgium
Description:

The frontal bird on the right was looking up when a Marsh Harrier flew high over. This is common behaviour of waders, who frequently scan the sky for potential danger. They often see  the birds of prey much earlier dan we, humans, do.
