Description:
The genus Aegotheles, known as the Owlet-Nightjars, is a unique genus of nightbirds which are restricted to Wallacea and Oceania. No less then seven from the nine species are found in New Guinea, which seems to be the epicenter of this genus' distribution. This is the Feline Owlet-nightjar, a Papuan mountain endemic and one of the largest congeners of it's genus. The birds often roost during the daytime in dense tangles and vines with a lot of dead leaves on steep mountain slopes.
