Frilled monarch, Arses telescophtalmus, has recently been split into two species: Arses telescophtalmus and Arses insularis. Ochre-collared Monarch, Arses insularis, shows very simlar features and habits, but has an ochre breast and neck.
Frilled Monarch, Arses telescophtalmus, has it's distribution limited to the lowlands in the west of Papua (Vogelkop and Rajah Ampat), and occurs as well in the southern lowlands as in the eastern tip of Papua. Ochre-collared Monarch, Arses insularis, has an even more limited range in the north central lowlands of Papua.
