Grassland Treeferns around Lake Habema - Grasland boomvaren rond Habema - Cyathea tomentosossima
This picture was made around Lake Habema (3224 metres above sea-level). The area around the lake consists of a vast area of boggy grasslands adjacent to the lake, and steep slopes with dwarf trees and scrubs. On the slopes, open boggy areas, are also encountered frequently. Further away from the lake, the hills are covered with mossy forest. Typical for the landscape are the Grassland Treeferns, Cyathea tomentosissima, most often found along the border of these rivers.
This picture shows a group of Grassland Treeferns, around a seepage or source along a grassy slope. They can grow up to 2,5 tot 5 metres high and their abundance in the grasslands around the lake, give the whole landscape a weird almost prehistoric like appearenace.
