Ground Beetle species - Rasterschallebijter - Carabus cancellatus ssp. tibiscinus
The individual on the image is a female of the red-legged form, the so called 'rufofemoral' form. Some authors (Kolbe and Breuning) describe different subpopulations based on the occurence of the femoral differences. But it is a fact that throughout the wide range of the different subspecies cancellatus and tibiscinus (West, North and Central Europe) rufofemoral individuals are found (Turin & Al.). Over this wide range entire rufofemoral populations can occur locally.
In Hungary the rufofemoral populations are encountered frequently in the wet habitats in the lowlands. This individual was found in an alluvial Ash forest in Ocsa, where the entire population seems to have the red femurs.
