Description:
The image shows the typical habitat of the two Pyrenean Carabus endemics: Carabus pyrenaeus and Carabus cristoforii. The rock piles are the typical habitat of Carabus pyreneaus and the sparse short vegetation on the left (the brown patches), are typical habitat of Carabus cristoforii, a high alpine steppe species. Both species are mostly found in the cool vicinity of the snow patches, where they can hide under stones when it gets too hot during the daytime in summer.
