Description:
Lesser Adjudant is one of the threatened wetland birds, found in Kaziranga. Compared to Greater Adjudant, this species is less frequently found in the vicinity of human settlements and on dumps. It scavenges less the Greater adjudant and often forages in small groups, by walking and wading in marshy areas.
It is classified by IUCN as vulnarebale. Though not as rare as Greater Adjudant, it has also suffered very severe declines during the past decades. Nowadays world population is estimated at 6500 - 8000 individuals, of which 2000 birds are found in India, mainly in the alluvial plains of Assam.
