Description: 

Young bird.

The thousands of tiny black and grey spots on the mud are Brine Flies (Ephydridae) , which are amazingly abundant on Salt Lake during the summer. They are the bulk food for many birds, spiders and many carnivorous insects such as Tiger Beetles.
