Longhorn beetle - Boktor - Morinus asper, Morimus asper
Morinus asper is one of the bigger and more impressive European Longhorn Beetle species. It's larvae live in dead wood and the adults are found in mixed and broadleaved forests, as well as in old fruityards and gardens with big trees. Recent taxonomic research seems to conclude that Morimus asper and Morimus funereus (which has a more Central European distribution) are one and the same species. Morimus asper is much darker grey, almost blackish with large darker spots on its back (elytral spots). Morimus funereus has a much paler grey colour. Because of this paler colour, the dark spots on its back are more contrasting and prominent. Morimus funereus is a habitat directive species.
The individual on the image is a male (slightly smaller and more slender body and much longer antennae).
