Mountain landscape with fern above lake Habema - Alpien zicht met varen boven het meer Habema - Pteridophyta
This picture was made a little above Lake Habema (3224 m), at an altitude of about 3400 metres above sea-level. The area around the lake consists of a vast area of boggy grasslands adjacent to the lake, and steep slopes with dwarf trees and scrubs. On the slopes, open boggy areas, are also encountered frequently. Further away from the lake, the hills are covered with mossy forest.
One the picture you can see the dwarf scrub vegetation covered by dark clouds. The Snow Mountains have an extremely wet climate. During our 8 day stay, we had daily heavy showers, which often lasted for several hours, and this occured sometimes several times a day.
