Location:
Arfak Mountains,
West Papua,
Indonesia
Description:

The genus Aegotheles, known as the Owlet-Nightjars, is a unique genus of nightbirds which are restricted to Wallacea and Oceania. No less then seven from the nine species are found in New Guinea, which seems to be the epicenter of this genus' distribution. This is Mountain Owlet-nightjar, a Papuan mountain endemic. The bird feeds at night, foraging on insects beneath the canopy and in clearings of the mountain rainforest.
