This picture was made in a forest close to the pass, at an altitude of about 3800 metres above sea-level. The forest had suffered several years ago seriously from a drought during El Niño, and many trees had died then. We encountered several groups and pairs of Orange-billed Lorikeets, who seemed to forage on the bark of dead trees and dead snags.
