Papuan Lorikeet -
Papoealori
-
Charmosyna papou

Image ID:
1344
Date:
23/06/2011
Location:
Camp Japan,
Arfaks,
West Papua,
Indonesia
Description:

Papuan Lorikeet is the most common parrot species at the higher altitudes of the Arfaks. It often occurs in pairs, but we saw several times large parties of up to 30 birds feeding on the flowers of a tree close to our campsite. In spite of it's noisy behaviour with whirring wings and calls when flying over, it is not easy to see the bird properly, because it often forages high in the dense canopy of huge trees, where the branches are often covered with epiphytes.
