This species of Rock Lizzard, Lacerta bonnali, is a Pyrenean endemic, with a very restiricted distribution. Three very similar looking endemics occur in the higher parts of the Pyreneans. Lacerta aranica, aurelioli and bonnali occur each in geographically different parts of the mountain chain. They are found at altitudes between 1700 and 3000 metres above sea-level. Lacerta bonnali is found between the 'Puerto de Portalet' in Huesca and the 'Puerto de Bonaigua in Lérida.
