Spot-billed is one of the threatened wetland birds, found in Kaziranga.
It is classified by IUCN as near-threatened. As most of the wetland species and birds of the rich alluvial plains, the species has suffered very severe declines during the past decades. Nowadays world population is estimated at 13000 - 18000 individuals, of which 5000 birds are found in India.
