Nameri National Park lays on the broder of the alluvial plains of Assam, North East India. It is situated along the Jhia Borelli River. The park contains impressive vast evergreen forest areas, interspersed with more open swamps with a grassy vegetation. The park contains both flat alluvial forest and hill forest. The park holds very high densities of Asian elephants, as well as healthy populations of other large mammals, such as Gaur, Sambar, Leopard and Tiger. Scarce, elusive and threatened bird species, such as White-winged Duck, Ibisbill (winter migrator), Pallas's Fish-Eagle, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Blue-naped Pitta and White-cheecked Hill Partridge are all found within the Park.
