Vast boggy grasslands around Lake Habema - Uitgestrekte venige graslanden rond het meer Habema - Cyathea tomentosossima
This picture was made a little above Lake Habema (3224 m), at an altitude of about 3400 metres above sea-level. The area around the lake consists of a vast area of boggy grasslands adjacent to the lake, and steep slopes with dwarf trees and scrubs. On the slopes, open boggy areas, are also encountered frequently. Further away from the lake, the hills are covered with mossy forest.
This picture shows the vast boggy grasslands around the lake. Within these boggy areas there are small rivers, which debouch into the lake. Typical for the landscape are the Grassland Treeferns, Cyathea tomentosissima, most often found along the border of these rivers.
