Salvadori's Fig Parrot is the one of the rarest parrot's in Papua. It's range is restricted to the lowland forests in the North West from the Cyclops Mountains to the East of the Geelvink Bay. Because of this and the threat of it's habitat it is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.
This image is one of the few pictures of this species in the wild. The fact that it is a tiny bird, spending most of his time in the canopy of big forest trees, make it a difficult species to observe. The Swamp Forest in Nimbokrang is definitely one of the best places to spot this species.
Western Black-capped Lory is another Papuan endemic, sharing the same habits: it spends also most of his time high in the forest canopy and feeds on flowering trees in the lowlands of Papua and his satelite islands.
