During the Eastern holidays I spent a week in the Pyrenees Atlantiques and in the Aude, in southern France. Unfortunately the nights were still very cold and there seemed to be very few ground beetle activity.

29/04/2013The forest of Sare, in the French Pyrenees Atlantiques, and close to the Col De Lizarietta, is one of the oldest forests of France. The forest holds a remarkable amount of huge beeches, oaks and Taxus baccate. -
28/04/2013Carabus arvensis is a widespread Palearctic species, that shows a lot of beautiful colour variations. Sometimes three different colour morphs can even be found in the same area. The most common and widespread colour morph found in Western Euope is 'coppery bronze'. -
