Papuan man at market of Wamena - Papoea man op de markt van Wamena
This is a picture of our departure in Wamena. We drove with a four wheel drive from Wamena (1500 meters above sealevel) to Lake Habema in the Snow Mountains (3224 metres above sealevel), by crossing a pass of about 4000 metres above sea-level. Here you can see our car at the market, where we went shopping before hitting the road. And yes, we did hit the road, most often literally... From Habema we explored during eight days the surroundings of Lake Habema, by trekking around with our guide and porters. We camped at three different sites: around the Lake, a little higher at Pondok Tiga (around 3600 metres above sea-level) and down to Yabogima (about 2500 metres above sealevel).
As you can see on the image, two white people always attracts a lot of the local Papuans, who seem very curious about the event. Most of the local people belong there to the two main local tribes, which are the Dani, Yali and the Lani.
